For the second time in as many seasons, a pair of area high school football teams will play for a national television audience as Cy-Fair and Cypress Falls meet at 7 p.m. today at the Berry Center on ESPN2.
The game is the 13th in a 14-game schedule for the ESPNU Old Spice High School Showcase. Last season, ESPN2 broadcast Lufkin's 31-7 win over The Woodlands on Oct. 26 at Moorhead Stadium in Conroe.
"It's real exciting for our program and our school," Cypress Falls coach David Raffield said. "I've been getting phone calls from (ex-players) all around the country because they're going to get to see our game. They're pretty fired up that they can turn on their TV set in New York or Chicago or Florida and get to watch their team play."
There are several things to showcase in tonight's matchup. The biggest attraction is Cy-Fair senior running back Sam McGuffie. The 5-11, 190-pound Michigan commitment already has become an Internet star because of highlight videos circulating on YouTube.com, but the nation will get the chance to see the area's most electrifying back live for the first time.
